Support Businesses & the High Street

At an early stage of the current Government, I was asked to join the Committee overseeing the Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy Department. In this role I am able to scrutinise both the public and private sector businesses, such as conducting an investigation into the collapse of Carillion.

My role also gives me a platform on which to speak on behalf of Stirling's businesses. To facilitate this role, I will be getting out, speaking and hearing from businesses in various sectors as often as possible. By doing so, ministers will be hearing the challenges and opportunities of Stirling businesses.

I can also help Stirling businesses by linking them with relevant information and assistance from the business department.

Across the UK, High Streets are feeling the pinch and are laying off staff. This is owing to a combination of poorly-made business rates, and changing consumer habits. Also a factor is the cleanliness and safety of the City Centres.

As the MP, I will be advocating a positive vision for the future of the High Street, which will keep those vital jobs in place. I will do this by holding forums with Stirling High Street businesses, engaging with Business Investment Districts, Ministers and the Stirling Council to create the best trading environment possible.
