Stephen Kerr, MP for Stirling, has welcomed the results of the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) Scotland survey announced today.
The results of the survey show that Scottish Construction sector is remaining resilient with Small & medium sized (SME) firms are staying stable despite the uncertainty over Brexit.
The pace of growth has remained constant in the sector in the final quarter of 2018 as compared with the previous quarter.
However, there are worrying trends developing with one in five construction SMEs having projects stalled in the past three months due to loan refusals or delays in decisions from banks.
Stephen Kerr said:
While I am pleased that our construction sector is holding up at this time of political uncertainty, it is very concerning that so many businesses are finding it hard to get loans for their projects. The answer is not an Investment Bank just for Scotland but one that can draw on the resources of the entire United Kingdom; and that is what I have called for and will keep working with the UK Government to deliver.
