MP HELPS CELEBRATE CARE HOME AWARDS
Stirling MP Stephen Kerr visited the Abbeyfield Care Home to help celebrate their recent awards; a Gold in best retirement housing and the 2019 Hero award for Abbeyfield cook Donna Harvey. Abbeyfield retirement home has won Gold at the 2019 Housing for Older People awards, in the category of care homes for under 25 tenants. Cook Donna Harvey also won the 2019 ‘Hero’ award, one of only nine awards given out across the entire UK. Individuals that make a great contribution to their care homes are recognised. Donna was praised for the variety and high standards as well as her good humour.
The awards are run by the EAC (Elderly Accommodation Council) and are held every two years. The home received a Gold award in the regional category and went into the National Awards where they won a Silver.
The MP also met residents and staff to discuss some of the issues most important to them, such as the recently passed but controversial Viewforth Link Road and the BBC’s decision to withdraw free TV licences for over-75’s.
Under House Manager Vikki Ferguson, said:
We were over the moon with these awards. Abbeyfield is like a family and the residents need it to be their home. The residents and the committee enjoyed Stephen’s visit and he was available to answer lots of questions
