In a mini-reshuffle of the Scottish Conservative MSP group, Central Scotland region MSP Stephen Kerr has taken up the role of Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills at the Scottish Parliament, replacing Oliver Mundell MSP who stepped back from the role at the start of the month.
He moves to Education from the Chief Whips Office, where former deputy whip Alexander Burnett will take his place.
Alongside this role, Stephen will sit on the Education, Children, and Young People committee alongside his colleague and Convenor of the committee Sue Webber.
Stephen Kerr MSP said:
“The SNP claim that Education is their priority. Those involved in the Education sector think differently. Standards are slipping, the attainment gap is widening, and teachers are increasingly concerned about the curriculum they are asked to deliver.
I will ensure the Scottish Government is held to account so that the next generation get the support they deserve in Scottish schools.”
