Stirling MP Stephen Kerr welcomed Stirling-based timber company Tilhill Forestry to Parliament this week, as part of an event aimed at focusing on the future of wood products.
Stephen met with Tilhill director Peter Whitfield and the Tilhill team to discuss the #FutureisForestry campaign, and Tilhill’s recent work with young people in the Timber industry. Tilhill are a UK wide company established just after the end of World War Two. Their head office is located in Stirling, they employ over two hundred people and look after huge areas of woodland in all parts of the UK.
Forestry and timber products feature heavily in the Stirling area, with Tilhill in Stirling, Norbord in Cowie, and the UK’s largest new forest being planted at Jerah, west of Dumyat. There are also numerous smaller companies and Forestry & Land Scotland manage extensive woodland areas
"The Future is Forestry" Campaign seeks to raise awareness of just how important Forestry is to our economy, how we must invest in the sector and the career opportunities available.
Stephen Kerr MP said:
“Ensuring we have a successful forestry sector is vital for Stirling with so many jobs relying on it. That is why it is a priority for me and why I chair the all party group that focusses on the increasingly important wood products industry. It was extremely useful to hear from Peter and the team at Tilhill who have huge experience across the UK and understand the challenges faced.
