Double whammy

An FOI from the Scottish Conservatives has revealed that the number of Lollipop ladies employed by Falkirk Council has dropped dramatically in recent years, from 62 in 2016 to just 45 this year.

The number has steadily reduced since 2016 despite no pre-pandemic reduction in traffic (1)

In 2019, 39 people were either killed or seriously injured in traffic accidents in Falkirk, according to the Department for Transport.

Cllr James Kerr, leader of the Conservative group on Falkirk Council, said:

“Falkirk is getting an SNP double whammy, with the SNP-led council cutting back on services and the SNP Scottish Government increasing council tax. We’re getting less and paying more.

This Falkirk Council administration must ensure road safety is a priority and refocus resources.”
