The Nextbike programme is operated by Forth Environment Link, and offer bike rental from over 20 stations in the City of Stirling. However, areas like Cambusbarron do not have a nearby station.
The group met to discuss the potential for siting a station in Cambusbarron, and outlined the next steps which will including working with Cambusbarron Community Council.
Stephen Kerr MP said:
After being contacted by Iain, I heard of the scale of local support at this early stage for a new Nextbike station in Cambusbarron. This is certainly an initiative I believe we can all get behind. Cycling is good for personal health, and also for the environment as it takes cars off the road.
I’m hoping this can be part of a wider cycling strategy for our region”
Local resident Iain Cameron said
“I was surprised to see that there is no Nextbike cycle scheme in Cambusbarron. Our village is not at all well-served by public transport, with only a very infrequent bus service. When I did some provisional research I was heartened to hear that lots of local residents would be interested in using such a service. Local TV stars Kerry and Kirsty MacPhee, as well as professional triathlete Fraser Cartmell, all back the scheme."
Chris James of FEL said:
“It was good to meet Stephen and Iain to discuss public bike share in Stirling. Nextbike currently has 23 stations across Stirling with 160 bikes available for use. Spring 2019 will see the introduction of electric bikeshare to the city, so there will be increased opportunities for more people in more places to cycle than ever before.”
